I have a 660 sq ft IPE deck. 20 years ago I built it with flush counter sunk stainless steel screws. The IPE and screws are fine but those screws betray the amateur I am. Replacing the IPE and using hidden fasteners is something like $9,000. Not gunna happen. I decided to countersink the existing screws and plug. To test I ordered a couple of dozen 3/8 in IPE plugs on a Friday from WidgetCo and they arrived Monday! I used a carbide countersink from Amana Tool - IPE eats steel. I glued them in with Gorilla Max Adhesive Clear - it is what the ape recommends for a deck. Sawed off the plugs with an oscillating saw and sanded flush. Perfect! WidgetCo Sales was nice enough to send a personal note of encouragement. That Monday I ordered the remaining 3,400 plugs. Arrived on Thursday. WidgetCo ships within an hour or two. A lot of work ahead but for a modest expense I'll have a great looking deck. I can't believe I waited this long. Thank you WidgetCo.
